We are going to cover the creation of the actual planet shape before moving on to isolating subjects from photos and incorporating them into the main planet document. This is the area where you will spend the most time because, in this sort of image, you need to use lots of elements to make the final image. It is worth trying different options such as the Quick Selection and Magic Wand tools if you find the Lasso tool too difficult for making selections.
