Amazing competition - Make a film poster!

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Check out this amazing competition for Photoshop users! You get to create your own film poster for the latest Ricky Gervais movies, ‘The Invention of Lying’. Use the provided set of images to create a poster  for the film and you could win yourself a signed script and film prop! Check out all the details below. The deadline is the 7th February, so get your skates on and get designing!!! Good luck…

PRESS RELEASE:
INVENT A FILM POSTER - AND WIN A RICKY GERVAIS SIGNED FILM PROP

The Invention of Lying, out on Blu-ray & DVD on 1st Feb, is a hilarious comedy that takes place in an alternative reality in which lying does not exist. Everyone, even politicians and advertisers, speaks the truth (and nothing but the truth). Ricky Gervais plays screenwriter Mark Bellison, who is tasked with writing a film about the 1300s entitled Black Plague. Unfortunately for him, that’s a century where “not much happened”, but that’s all about to change as he discovers lying and finds that dishonesty has its rewards.

Now, Ricky Gervais needs YOUR help to create a mind boggling poster to help him position the film as a ground breaking (and quite possible tongue in cheek) piece of cinema. You can start from scratch if you wish, or use some film artwork and stills* kindly supplied by Universal Pictures to create a unique poster and submit it to our judge…. none other than Ricky Gervais himself!

To give you a bit of inspiration we’ve even managed to get our hands on the Black Plague opening credits. It goes a little something like this:

‘On the very first day of the fourteenth century, a momentous occasion occurred. It began as a day much like any other. The sun rose, the people awoke, workers began to work, babies began to cry. But all of that was interrupted when….’

As if getting your masterpiece in front of Ricky Gervais wasn’t reward enough, we’ve also got our hands on two props from the film - a Black Plague ‘writer’ chair back and a copy of the Black Plague film script - both of which we’ll get signed by the film’s star, writer and director.

So what are you waiting for… take your seat, open the stills and create a poster to wow the world! Click this link to download the start images.

Be sure to check out the free podcast that goes live on this site next week to find out all about his job and whether he’ll spill the beans on what will be in Photoshop CS5… Our staff writer, Simon Skellon does his very best to get all the gossip!

Write tutorials for Photoshop Creative

Friday, June 5th, 2009

There is heaps of Photoshop talent on the gallerys here and Photoshop Creative readers are often asking us how to recreate many of the pieces of artwork featured online. So, with this in mind, we are opening the doors of Photoshop Creative to any aspiring tutorial writers out there.
Get in touch if you want your tutorial idea to be considered for the magazine. You will need to be able to clearly, and most importantly, concisely explain how to create one of your images and provide a screen grab for each step. If this sounds appealing, then drop us an email at PCR@imagine-publishing.co.uk, giving us your tutorial idea and artwork example. You could soon be getting your work and name in print!

Dreaded deadlines

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

It’s that time again, and we’re on deadline for issue 43. Admittedly we know this issue isn’t going to be half as stressful as the next though. Usually we have four weeks to put the magazine out, but we’re facing a very tight three-week deadline next issue - not fun! It’s always this time of year that the deadlines get frantic, squeezing in 13 issues into the year. It’s always worth it in the end though, making Christmas seem all the more exciting when all the hard work is done. Our staff writer Simon who recently joined the team is being thrown in at the deep end with his first taster of crazy deadlines - his fingers have never typed so fast! Art Editor, Dani is designing pages so fast I think she’s going to wear a hole in her mouse mat and as for me - well I’m working my way through about ten ‘to-do’ lists, which seem to be growing, rather than shrinking by the day! I’m guessing there are many of you out there who are running round like us trying to tie up the loose ends before the Christmas celebrations begin - so good luck in finishing all your work! I’m pleased to see that this isn’t stopping many of you uploading new images to the gallery by the day (when do you guys actually sleep!) and letting off some steam with a bit of Photoshop therapy.090001f.jpg
