Get snowy with clipping masks and adjustments!
Use clipping masks and adjustments to create a snowy scene. Create the background by combining multiple winter landscape images using layers and masks. Use your favourite selection tool to mask the castle and then add a layer mask. For the Ferris wheel and carousel, use the Pen tool to create a path and then add the mask.
To create the winter look, apply a Gradient Map adjustment layer (using blue and white colours) to each image and then create a clipping mask by pressing Cmd/Ctrl+Opt/Alt+G. The clipping mask will only affect the layer immediately below. Now hit Shift/Cmd/Ctrl+I to inverse the image. Adjust the contrast and saturation using the Levels and Hue/Saturation adjustment layers, and clip the layers. To create the snowflakes, add a new layer and fill it with black. Add the Mezzotint filter and apply a Gaussian Blur. Adjust the Levels and change the blending mode to Screen.
