Separate the JPEGs from the PSD files, by creating a desktop folder
Create a separate folder on your desktop named ‘PSDs’ for keeping your layered Photoshop files in, away from the JPEGs.
You can always access the original image in a PSD by Ctrl/right-clicking on the Background layer and selecting Duplicate Layer.
Set Document to New and hit OK to open the image as a new file in Photoshop, and then save out.
