Here’s how the Levels adjustment can be used to transform the colours in an image

STEP 01

To make an image look as though it was taken at dawn, add the Levels adjustment by going to Layers>New Adjustment Layer>Levels. Hit OK in the pop-up dialog.

STEP 02

Inside Levels change the drop-down list of colours from RGB to Red. Any changes will only target the parts of the image in the Red Channel.

STEP 03

Push inwards the white marker until the highlights tint red. Move the middle marker to the left to add a red glow to the image.

STEP 04

Change the blend mode of the adjustment to Color. If you need to make the image lighter, add the Brightness/Contrast adjustment and increase the Brightness slider slightly.

Force inwards the white-colored marking until the features shade red. Shift the center marking to the remaining to add a red shine to the picture.
