Photoshop Tip: Brush tool monochrome effect

A tip for monochrome effects using the Brush tool and the Color blend mode

Just like layers, brushes have blend modes too. You can choose these from the Mode box in the Options bar when the Brush tool is activated.

The Color blend mode is particularly useful for converting a colour image to black and white.

Duplicate the Background layer and then brush over your image to selectively remove colour.
