Photoshop Tip: How to selectively boost contrast in a composition

A great way to paint contrast into an image is by using the Brush tool set to Overlay mode

Make sure your Foreground colour is white, and in the Options the Hardness of the Brush tool is 0% and Opacity around 20%.

Duplicate your image by pressing Cmd/Ctrl+J and on this gradually add white paint to highlights to boost contrast.
