We answer your questions…

You can create a square basketball using the Liquify filter. Locate a basketball, open in Elements and using the Quick Selection tool, delete the background. Head to the Liquify filter (Filter>Distort>Liquify). The trick here is to use a large, hard brush to form a cube shape by pushing the edges from the outside in. Use a smaller brush for the corners and keep pushing until youhave the cube shape. Click OK to confirm.

Using the Polygonal Lasso tool (L), select the edges and now invert (Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+I) the selection and delete the clear edges. Create a new layer, and using the Polygonal Lasso select one side of the cube. Fill with black (Edit>Fill) and set the Opacity to 40%. Create another layer, select the bottom part and fill with black, setting the Opacity to 60%. Merge the layers (Cmd/Ctrl+E). Place the ball inside the hoop and create a layer mask for the net.
